From childhood, I have wanted to see less sadness in this world, less heartache, animosity, conflict. After a while, the desire to work for a better world seems overwhelming because so little changes, even with the best efforts of so many good people.
End one war, another begins; achieve a certain level of civil/human rights, and a counter movement sets in; create a responsible business and someone else turns it into a cover for greed. What is it that keeps this human family (we ARE one family) from turning that corner — from the path of fear, selfishness, anger to the high road of compassion, cooperation, respect — once and for all? This blog will be called “rethinking matters” because it does matter that we think differently about some things than we have done in the past. If we look at our realities in a new way, we may question old ways, recognize better options.
Believe me, I may not have answers, but I want to raise issues that seem inconsistent with what most of us value : peace, respect, dignity.
